Name: Edgar Geovany Xar
Date of Birth: 12/13/1992
Edgar’s mother died in December 2002. We don’t know anything about the father. After his mother’s death, Edgar lived with his uncle who, along with his wife, beat the kids often and left them alone without food for long periods of time.
Edgar began to slip out of the house, often not returning at night. His uncle and aunt did not know how to handle him, and Edgar refused to allow his aunt to discipline him. His uncle went to the courts in search of somewhere Edgar could be placed and gave up his rights as a relative. Edgar was placed in a home in Quetzaltenango where he stayed for 4 months. His mother’s sister appeared and asked for custody of Edgar because their family did not want him to live in an institution. Edgar refused to speak to the aunt and refused to go home with her. So we were granted custody of Edgar. He is very sociable and kind. Edgar loves to play the guitar and has become skilled at playing soccer.
Location: Rehoboth Orphanage
Rehoboth Children’s Home is located in the town of Chimaltenango, located 35 miles west of Guatemala City. Rehoboth is home to boys and girls between two and 18 years old. The name of the home is based on Genesis 26:22. In this passage, Isaac had dug two wells in the new land and those around him quarreled with him, saying it was theirs. Once he had dug the third well, no one quarreled over it and he named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord is given us Room and will flourish in the land.” This means a lot to the children of Rehoboth; it reminds them that though their parents and others have abandoned them, God has made room for them. Guatemala has one of the highest violent crime rates in Latin America; your sponsorship will help this child.
